Localisation of Council Tax Benefit

Further to Decision Nos D110138CAB and D120008CAB, the report gave details of the outcome of the Government consultation in respect of the localisation of council tax benefit and sought approval of the proposed plan to progress the establishment of a local council tax benefit scheme for the Tonbridge and Malling area. Reference was made to the tight timescale for implementation although regulations concerning the detail of the new regime had not yet been issued.
The Cabinet resolved that:
The contents of the report be noted and, unless financial considerations change, the Director of Finance be authorised to:
1) commence the design of a local scheme for Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council; and
2) in designing the scheme, to take into account possible changes to the scheme of council tax discounts.
Reasons: As set out in the report of the Director of Finance.
